In the spring and summer of 1895 in a
humble workshop in Detroit
USA the very first Pianola was built by a gentleman named Edwin S. Votey
and the first instrument went on sale in the USA in 1897 and then within
Europe in 1899.
Because of the unique number of mechanism in the first
machine it was truly regarded as the first musical piano- playing device.
